Amnesty International has released a new report entitled: “Out of Sight, Out of Mind: Gender, Indigenous rights, and energy development in northeast BC, Canada”, documenting how the scale of resource development in the northeast BC, and the failure to systematically examine the specific impacts on Indigenous women and girls, has put the lives of Indigenous women and girls at even greater risk. Released in Vancouver on Nov 3, the report will be followed by a public ‘town hall’ style event in Fort St. John on November 4. Access the report and accompanying materials, including info-graphics and short videos, online here.
The Fort St John panel, including frontline service providers, community activists, people impacted by violence, and public officials, will discuss the issues raised in the report. Audience members will be invited to engage in the discussion and ask questions.
Time: 7-9 pm Fri Nov 4, doors open at 6:30. Place: North Peace Cultural Centre, 10015 - 100th Avenue, Fort St John. Treaty 8 Territory. Everyone welcome to this free family-friendly event.
