Homelessness Prevention Program

This program provides services to help people who are living in absolute homelessness, hidden homelessness (temporary housing), or who are at-risk of homelessness (temporarily housed, couch surfing, or soon to be evicted). We aim to connect clients with housing options and the support needed to help them move up through the housing continuum:

The Homeless Outreach Program provides:

  • Case planning: goal setting, action planning, and support
  • Referrals: to housing options, Income Assistance, and community services
  • Mediation: Often with landlords
  • Skills Training for maintaining housing

Eligibility for this program:

  • People leaving corrections or hospital
  • Women who have experienced violence or are at risk of violence
  • People of Aboriginal descent
  • Youth, including those leaving the care system (aging out)

This service is collaborative with other community service providers and acts as a point of integrated case management to guide clients to the various services available in the community. The goal is to support clients towards achieving the lifestyle, skill set, and resources needed to obtain and sustain housing.

The Homelessness Prevention Program is an enhancement to the Homelessness Outreach Program. It is targeted towards clients who are working towards entering a market rental situation or maintaining their market rental. The Homelessness Prevention Program may provide:

  • Rental supplement up to $450.00, provided eligibility criteria is met and funds are available
  • Tenancy Support, skills training, and case planning
  • Support in building / maintaining relationships with landlords
  • Education and resources for their landlords to help support and maintain tenancies
